SO WHAT IS THIS SITE ALL ABOUT, AND WHO IS IT FOR?
There are many, excellent, coaching blogs available on the internet to help coaches but timscoachingblog.com is different from all of these as
ITS AIMED AT MANAGERS WHO COACH, RATHER THAN JUST FOR COACHES! Its also great for players to improve their game!!
So it’s of great use for
-
Chairmen (to help them set out expectations for their team Managers)
-
Managers (to help them get tips that can help them improve the performance of themselves AND their players)
-
Coaches (there are still coaching tips to learn from)
-
Players (who can be helped to improve by the little tips contained in the blog!)
So, if you are someone who is involved in any form of player selection/performance/improvement then this blog will be vital to help you as well as being a fun read every week.

SO, YOURE GOING TO LOOK AT TIPS FROM "THIS OLD GIT" (MERELY A GRASSROOTS UEFA B LEVEL COACH)
SO, WHAT IS MY OWN COACHING PHILOSOPHY?
It is based on what I have available to work with, but, on the assumption that they are capable:
-
I want every player to feel valued and have an individual development plan that they can work towards, and with.
-
I want to make training something they WANT to attend, not HAVE to attend.
-
My coaching is fundamentally game related where possible rather than just drill after drill - although some drilling is part of each game situation!
-
I try to apply the four corners approach in totality rather than just focused on the technical quarter (which many coaches do!)
-
Social
-
Physical
-
Psychological
-
Technical/Tactical.
By way of a personal example of this
As a coach currently working with females, I believe that the psychological quarter is the area that the female game offer most opportunities to improve within.
-
I try to make sure fitness is a key area but to suit game situations (making 10 yard runs in last 10 minutes to receive a pass rather than creating Mo Farah!!)
How do I manage a team
Very possession based but aiming at progressive possession (not just knocking the ball side to side aimlessly)
To set out at team DNA (based on a club DNA) and find players to work in all positions within that team structure - "square pegs for square holes"!!
Looking to mirror the 18s, to adult teams, so the players can move on “seamlessly” and create players that can fit into the team without disruption!
Progression of individuals
My coaching target is to take players to the next level rather than JUST trophy hunting (although winning “the right way” is something I want players to learn!)
The direction I would like to see any club "programme" (project) move.
That players can join as children but finish as “adults”, with appropriate age group amendments along the way!
